Why do I get "No data available" when I try to read a file in a terminal?

If you try to read a file that is not available (i.e. it is not kept offline, the data is not in the cache and no device with the data can be reached) you will get this error. You can verify that with lima ls on Linux: the A flag should not be set. To solve the problem, bring a device with the data (usually the Lima) back online.
